GEHS hires new Executive Director

Jan Shupert-Arick

The Glen Ellyn His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety is pleased to announce the appoint­ment of Jan Shupert-Arick to the post of Exec­u­tive Direc­tor. Ms. Shupert-Arick was cho­sen from a field of 35 appli­cants after a lengthy eval­u­a­tion process. She brings to this posi­tion an exten­sive back­ground in museum man­age­ment, includ­ing 13 years in museum edu­ca­tion and pro­gram devel­op­ment at the North­ern Indi­ana Cen­ter for His­tory in South Bend and the Lin­coln Museum in Fort Wayne, Indi­ana. Jan has served as the Pres­i­dent of the national Lin­coln High­way Asso­ci­a­tion and the Indi­ana Lin­coln High­way Asso­ci­a­tion. She has expe­ri­ence on the boards of the National Auto­mo­bile and Truck Museum of the U.S. in Auburn, Indi­ana, and has served on the Regional Advi­sory Coun­cil of Indi­ana Land­marks. Her expe­ri­ence also includes edu­ca­tion, preser­va­tion, fund rais­ing, vol­un­teer man­age­ment, mar­ket­ing and mem­ber­ship development.

Ms Shupert-Arick has a BA from Indi­ana Uni­ver­sity and is cer­ti­fied to teach at the high school level in the areas of U.S. His­tory and Psy­chol­ogy. She has pub­lished sev­eral books and numer­ous arti­cles on his­torical top­ics.  Her books include two pub­lished by Arca­dia Press, a well-known pub­lisher of books on local and regional his­tory. In her spare time, she enjoys gar­den­ing and is an Advanced Mas­ter Gardener.
